Kim Roy

Philosophy

Special Ceremonies may be the catchy business name but the reality is you are hiring me, Kim Roy.

I became a celebrant following my own wedding experience. At the time it didn't even occur to me to shop around for a celebrant; I simply booked the first one that I contacted who was free on that day.

My chosen celebrant was entirely professional and did a good job. However, I remember thinking on the day that she just didn't fit with the casual, relaxed atmosphere that I had wanted to create. I wanted her to laugh when the DJ got my entrance song wrong and I walked down the isle to "Sex Bomb", after all I was (laughing that is).

I knew I had the skills to do a great job but more importantly I knew I would enjoy working with clients to create the ceremonies that they wanted. This wasn't going to be just a job for me, it was going to be something that I would be passionate about.

My main objective is to get to know my clients so that I can play the role they expect of me in the planning process and during the ceremony. This also means that I am well equipped to manage all of the little issues that will inevitably arise on the day, in a way that matches my client's expectations. I want my clients to be relaxed and able to enjoy the occassion knowing that they can trust me to manage any eventuality.

Since coming back to Tenterfield I have also realised that there is an assumption that because your ceremony is being held in the country that you are stuck with traditional type ceremonies because no one can cope with anything out of the ordinary. I am determined to provide exactly the same options for my regional clients as I would for those in the city. So if you want something different ask and I am sure we can make it happen.

Qualifications

As a registered Civil Celebrant I have completed formal training in Marriage and Naming Ceremonies.  Supporting my qualifications as a celebrant I hold a Bachelor of Business Communication with a major in Public Relations. This degree includes specialisation in creative writing, speech writing and event co-ordination. I have applied these skills in a professional capacity over the past 10 years. I am also an accomplished public speaker, facilitator and trainer.

I have worked extensively within the Information Technology industry and have a solid understanding of web development and on-line marketing. I intend to apply these skills to my business by incorporating on-line services and offering clients the opportunity to use new technologies within their ceremonies if they are looking for unique ways to reach family and friends.

About Me

If I am going to get to know my clients then it is equally important for my clients to know me. I am 40 years of age I have been married for the past nine years. I have two young sons aged 5 and 2. The 5 year old has just entered the sports arena so I am now a "soccer mum" a "swimming mum" and who knows what else.

I was born in Jandowae, Queensland (so I support the Maroons) but I grew up in Tenterfield. I am essentially a country girl, although I lived in Brisbane for 20 years. The call of the country won though and my family moved back to Tenterfield early in 2008. I wanted my boys to have space to grow up; to know where milk comes from and to know how to look after a dog.

The added bonus is that New England and the Granite Belt have some of the most beautiful ceremony venues I've seen. It is a wonderful location to get away from the hustle, bustle and expense of city ceremonies and have a relaxed country experience.

Much as I would like to be a full-time celebrant it doesn't pay the bills as yet, so I have a part-time job at the Tenterfield Preschool. I also have a Certificate III in Fitness and teach Aqua Aerobics as my means of keeping fit and healthy. What is it they say?  If you need something done right - ask a busy woman!
